Back when I first started my online home business I didn't have
a clue concerning how to go about it. I had never done any
Internet marketing, and didn't know anything about websites or
search engines or any of that other online business stuff...in
short, I was a complete rookie. In retrospect, the two major
things that really helped me was that I refused to be intimidated
and I kept a realistic perspective (both in terms of initial
financial results and the time frame necessary to become
successful).

I know from my own years of experience that relatively few
business ventures are started on the Internet by people with
the experience, motivation, determination, backing, and support
that it takes to even have a reasonable chance of success.

Real online business people are those who work hard, who immerse
themselves deeply in marketing and advertising, and who put in
long hours in the beginning in order to see their Internet-based
businesses succeed.

Achieving success in an online business is not difficult to
comprehend. There is indeed a learning curve, but it's not brain
surgery. The process of learning isn't as much the issue as are
the personal traits of motivation and determination.

Develop your marketing plan and execute it. There's no magic in
this online home based business stuff. We're talking real world
here. It's not nearly as romantic as winning the lottery, yet
many of the thousands of people I have helped to start up their
home businesses on the Internet clearly came in with what I have
come to refer to as the "magic/lottery" mentality. Many of those
folks went off to chase another rainbow after a few months, but
some of them also came to their senses and buckled down to
develop very successful home based businesses.

Run, don't walk, away from all of those people that offer you
"shortcuts" or "success secrets" (probably in exchange for some
of your money). I mean, if they had it all figured out, why
would they sell this "magic answer" to you for a few bucks
instead of just keeping it private and then making tons of
money for themselves? (I'll leave it to you to connect the dots)

A key point to always keep in mind is that...business is
business. Regardless of whether you are on the Internet or
operating a business in a shopping mall. The same
fundamental principles apply to both businesses.

1) You need to have a product, or products, to sell.

2) You need to advertise to get customers to buy your
products.

3) You need to provide support to your customers who buy
your products as a result of your advertising efforts.

4) You need to build a loyal customer following, so you can
maintain a profitable business over a period of time.

Many people fall into the trap of believing that because
they are

doing business on the Internet, some of these steps
can either be skipped or they need to overemphasize one area
or another.

The bottom line regarding an online business is that you will
need to advertise and you will need to take care of your
customers.

Run your online home business just like a real company
because it is, in fact, a real business and you have a real
opportunity to either be successful or to fail. The primary
difference between an online business and a traditional
business is location (no traditional "storefront"). Nearly
everything else is essentially the same. You have products
and your objective is to sell those products to people who
want/need your products.

Remember, building a business takes time, determination,
and patience. Far too many people seem to think that the
traffic is just going to pour in once they have put up their
own website on the Internet. As anyone who has had a website
for a while knows...this simply is not true, but it is often
the reason people get frustrated and quit. The fact of the
matter is that you need to diligently promote/advertise your
website in order for your online home based business to
flourish and prosper.

One of the most important bits of advice that I can pass on to
you is that you must be patient. Most people start their online
home business with great enthusiasm and high expectations. Often,
after a few months, they become disappointed and frustrated
because they are not already making a large amount of money.

These impatient home business entrepreneurs then often start to
jump from one program to another every few months (never allowing
themselves enough time to succeed at any of them) and, finally,
throw up their hands in frustration and declare that they just
can’t make money online.

Stick with your business and don’t give up. Dogged persistence
(much like the tenacity of a pit bull) is an absolutely vital key
to your eventual success. Don’t give up when things become
frustrating and you are not achieving the immediate success you
expected. Give your online home based business sufficient time to
develop and you realize the success you are seeking.

There is nothing magical about running an online home based
business. It should be run the same as any traditional "bricks
and mortar" business and it will succeed or fail depending on
the time and effort you put into it.

Is Your Computer Strong Enough For A work From Home Internet Business

If you are planning on doing business online with one of the many work from home based businesses available on the internet, then you are going to want to make sure your computer is up to the task.

Although it is possible to get by with a Pentium 1, at today’s prices there is no reason to do so. Pentium 4 computers and AMD equivalent computers have dropped in price enormously.

I have to admit, I am still using an Intel Celeron 766 Mh computer but I upgraded the ram to 384 Mb and the hard drive to 80 Gb. Also a high speed internet connection is a must. I am connected to the internet from 8:00 Am to 2:00 Am (18 Hours) continuously every day. This means my security including firewall must be set up properly and working. But that’s another article for another time.

Why do you need a powerful computer for your work from home internet business? Well before I upgraded from my Pentium MMX 233 Mh computer I was spending more time re booting from freeze ups and cleaning my hard drive than I was actually working at my internet work from home based business. Yes I started out over 5 years ago using a Pentium MMX 233 with only 160 Mb of RAM and a 3 Gb hard drive, proving that it is possible to build a work from home internet business on an old slow computer. But why would you. I upgraded to a used Celeron 766 Mh computer with 256 Mb of RAM for $200 Canadian. And here in Canada you can buy a Pentium 4 or AMD

equivalent for just $400-$500.

I recommend the following main features when looking for your work from home internet business computer.
1. Pentium 4 or AMD Equivalent.
2. 256 Mb of RAM minimum. 512 Mb is better.
3. 80 Gb hard drive or better
4. Ethernet for high speed internet connection.
Your video card is less important unless you plan to play games on your work from home business computer. Cheaper computers come with onboard video which is just fine for business purposes.

Try to get at least a 17 inch monitor. Get an LCD monitor if you can afford it. It will save you all kinds of desk space giving you more room to work.

These are my recommendations for your work from home internet business computer based on my past experiences with my own work from home internet business. They are just guidelines only. In fact you could spend thousands of dollars more than what I have suggested here. Wouldn’t we all love to have an AMD 64 computer with 2 Gb RAM, dual 200 Gb raided hard drives and a 21 inch LCD monitor!

Ask many working moms or stay at home moms what the idyllic job situation would be and most will say, "If I could only work at home, make some extra money and still spend time with my family."

With all the scams in the home based business industry, many stay-at-home moms have a very difficult time finding legitimate and well paying home employment. It can be a costly experience, when you think you have found a great job opportunity only to find that you have been scammed by an unscrupulous individual you can’t contact. Hundreds of these so-called work-at-home schemes exist, and it can be very frustrating trying to weed thru them and find legitimate opportunities.

Many legitimate companies do hire stay-at-home moms. However, these jobs do tend to be scarce and many of them require that you have a great deal of experience or education to perform them. No one will "get rich quick" working at home. It will not happen. And those ads that guarantee that you will are false. Remember the old saying "If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is"? Well it does hold true! So be careful when considering one of these opportunities.

So how is a mother supposed to do what she feels is the best for her family and still contribute financially?

Many of us stay at home moms, climb aboard the guilt train when we even consider doing something for ourselves; taking a little down time, finding a hobby or anything that we feel takes away time and energy from our homes, children, & husbands. There is an alternative to working at home, that takes up a very small portion of your time, can make you a little extra income and can get you out of the house for a few hours. A part time job may just be the answer you are looking for. Most part-time jobs require less than 32 hours per week and some require less than that. Now if you need to actually earn a living, then part time work would probably not be a wise choice for you. Part time jobs may have other drawbacks that make them bad choices as well.

A few things to consider:
Part-time jobs rarely pay more than $6-$8 per hour depending on skills required, and the type of job you will be doing. Some jobs pay as much as $11-$12 per hour, but they are rare. Be prepared to earn just a little above minimum wage for most part time jobs.

Most part time jobs do not offer benefits. There are those that do, however. If you have the time to do your homework, you may just be able to find one that does. You will be better off, and more apt to find a good part time job, if you do not make this a top priority.

Many part time jobs are evenings and weekends. Many companies need people that are willing to work evenings throughout the week, weekend days and evenings, and

even holidays.

Cost of childcare. This can be the biggest obstacle for those seeking part time work. Many centers or individuals that provide childcare either do not care for children on a part-time basis, or they charge full-time fees for part-time care.

Okay, so you have weighed all the options, and you are ready to go to work. Where do you begin?

Here are a few ideas and places to find part time work, along with benefits that some will provide for their part time employees:

Day Care Centers, Church Daycares, & Church Nurseries: Many will let you bring your own children free of charge!

Home Day Care: Even with one child (depending on where you live) you could earn $80, $90 up to $125 in many areas for caring for one infant in your home. That translates to utility bills, car payments, groceries, and many other monthly bills.

Mall Stores Are the Ticket! Visit your local shopping mall, primarily clothing stores, craft stores, and other “women related” stores. These places hire of lot of part time help, especially during the holidays

Discount Stores: Many discount stores such as Wal-Mart or K-mart hire TONS of part time workers in MANY areas; in their stores, offices, warehouses and more.

Home Reps for Avon, Home Interiors, Tupperware, etc.: Try your local yellow pages or a web search to find info about these business opportunities.

Put Your Creative Abilities to Work for You! Flower arranging, crafting, tole painting, quilting, and more! Sell your handicrafts or teach others! Many craft stores offer areas or rooms in their stores for this type of thing.

How Talented Are You? If you play an instrument, sing or are a whiz at geometry, start your own small business, by giving piano lessons, voice lessons, or tutoring.

House/Office Cleaning Advertise in your local paper for house or office cleaning, running errands or yard work. Small office cleaning is a great way to earn extra money for just a few hours per evening.

NOTE: For any type of job listed above(where you are not receiving a paycheck from an employer) make sure that you research the laws and regulations in your city and state in regards to zoning, sales taxes, insurance etc. before you start.

Search your local newspaper classifieds. Many companies now advertise for employees on the internet and you can search thru hundreds of job listing databases, most of them free of charge.

Working part-time might not be the ideal option that many moms dream about, but it can be a practical and rewarding alternative for many of us. Keep your options open, stay flexible. Happy job hunting!

Forget the hype! No, NOT everyone can make big money
working from home.

Is it possible to make a six figure income working from home?

YES!.

Is it possible to enjoy more freedom in your schedule, own your
own business, fire your boss, and all of the other work from home
fantasies?

YES!

Can you do it?

Well, now that one's not as easy to answer. I can't solve that riddle
for you. I CAN, however, let you know what working from home
really involves so you can make that decision for yourself.

MAKING CHANGES

In some respects, working under a supervisor is a life of ease. You
have certain responsibilities, and you take care of them, but that's
as far as it goes. Working your own business is NOTHING like
that. All the decisions are yours to make, all the work is yours to
do, and all the success and profit OR mistakes and failures will be
yours as well.

Working your own business not only requires a change in what you
are doing, but in how you think. No longer will the luxury of 'letting
someone else handle it' be around. You have to step up your level
of responsibility if you want to succeed.

DESIRE

Sure, everyone desires more money, a better house, more time off,
a nicer car, and all that. However, there is a BIG difference
between sitting on the couch saying, "I wish I had a car like that,"
and having the desire to take the ACTION necessary to earn the
money for the car of your dreams.

There is work that will need to be done. It's NOT going to just
happen upon a wish. The kind of desire it takes to make it while
working from home is a constant ACTIVE desire, not just a
passive want.

COURAGE

Working from home will bring about new challenges for you. It
takes courage to step up and meet those challenges. Each stage as
you progress will require you to learn new skills, face different
obstacles, and complete the necessary tasks at hand.

It's not easy doing things differently,

but unless you do the job you'll
never progress. This is where your desire to succeed will be
tested.

DISCIPLINE

Trust me on this one. It is SO easy to start wanting to live the
benefits of working from home before you've earned them. Sure,
you're the boss, you can take a day off whenever you want, but
then nothing gets done that day either.

You will need to be able to discipline yourself, motivate yourself,
and regulate your activities. You'll still need to work toward goals,
meet schedules, and plan for the future.

Lack of continued effort is probably the number one cause of
failure in home businesses. Many, many people have the desire,
some have the courage, but most still falter when it comes to getting
the work of building their own business done day after day.

It's going to take a while to get where you want, and it will take
continued effort not only to reach your goals, but maintain that
lifestyle once you've gotten there.

Working from home is NOT an occupation reserved for any sort of
elite group. Others that have proven successful at it are no better
than you, me, or anybody else.

It REALLY is possible to make the dream of working from home
come true. Yes, anyone can do it.

It's simply a matter of having an active desire, courage to make
changes, and the discipline to see it all through.

So, IS working from home REALLY for you?

Only you can answer that.

Is working from home all it's cracked up to be?

I've worked from home for the last 27 years so I guess I am entitled to make some observations about how it works.

There are some critical issues that you would need to consider -

1. Discipline. Working from home means working - not staying. And the temptations for walking away from the work can be compelling. Kids come home with great news so that's a good reason. A movie on TV I want to see - well that's pretty compelling. How about when I'm not in the mood. You know - the words aren't flowing, the mind feels like porridge, there's no-one to see me. It's easy to simply find an excuse and justify it with a catch-up clause. I'll work later when everyone has gone to bed. I'll get up early. Yeah.

I work from home because I like the flexibility. I can take a break to listen to my kids - they are both away at university now - but I watched them grow up - and I got the chance to grow up with them. I can goof off if I feel like it - but you have to face the facts that the work has to get done. If you take time out for some other activity - you have to put it back. I smile when I read about all the guys who work in their pajamas at home - seemingly for the odd moment in between drinking coffee and goofing off. About how easy it all is. Garbage. If they are successful I'm pretty sure the reason why they are in their pajamas is because they haven't slept for 3 days and don't have time to change. I know there have been days when I've got to writing at 3am and been so busy that I'm still there as suppertime - dressed for bed. It's just been too busy to change.

2. Flexibility. Working from home allows enormous flexibility - often the cause of so many home business failures. I like to work a lot. If I worked in an office away from home I'd be frustrated. See - working from home allows me to go to my office when ever I want. I can watch my wife in the kitchen, listen to the TV in the den, stroll through to grab a cup of coffee and watch my wife painting - (you can see her stuff at http://www.veebauer.com). I can get up at night and go to work if something is buzzing in my brain. I can go to work at 3am and no one minds because I'm home when everyone else gets up. I can work late if I want and that's ok. But you will notice the word WORK a lot in my story. It's vital to make the flexibility work for you and help you increase your output - not tempt you away from the work to be done. 3. Organization. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to take over the rest of the home as office space. It usually starts on the dining room table - I may need to spread out some work so I can organize it. Then some goes through to the TV room because I'm going to proof read or catch up trading or sketch an outline while the

commercials play on the screen. Then I leave all that behind when I go back to my office to do something there. It's very easy to get buried when you work from home. So you either have to have a spouse who will shove you back in your hole occasionally - with all your stuff, or you end up lost. You have to stay organized - ( My wife wants to know how come I can't follow my own advice ...hmm)

4. Focus. You have to keep the faith. In spite of the distractions it is essential to keep the focus on output. You must be able to measure what you have done and how much closer to the end result you are. Sometimes it's easy to get confused between effort and results. We are taught to work hard and we will be rewarded. Perhaps one of the biggest lies told. Results come from the right work being done properly - not from effort. Don't get me wrong. Effort is necessary - but it doesn't stand alone. That means that busy work is to avoided at all times - and busy work is that stuff that needs to be done but doesn't move us towards the end result. It's often a convenient distraction from doing important stuff because it's easy, risk free and routine and maybe makes us feel good. Do that when the real work is finished. When the end result is closer than it was.

5. Loneliness. Working from home can easily create a feeling of being isolated. Guys go to work - talk about the game, customers, the boss, the secretary, the news and so one. Don't let them fool you that's its all work. There is a feeling of community in a public work environment. You don't have that at home. You are usually alone. Working. Alone. Worrying. Alone. You must be prepared for dealing with that.

And there are solutions. Maybe alone is ok for you. I think it's great. I can get on with stuff and no-one is poking his head into my office wanting to gab about something. But then my wife and kids think I'm a bit strange anyway and it's safer for the public if I don't go out. You can also maintain contact with others through the phone of visits if you feel the need to share. That's what the telephone is for -

Conclusion

Working from home is a life style - not really a work style. I don't commute in rush hour traffic, don't ever get home late for supper, see a lot of my family. I don't have to pay office and parking rentals and I get to be my own boss - and I'd never change it.

Let me start this discussion with a simple question. On the Internet why folks look for “Work At Home” or “Work From Home?” Reason may be countless. But what they are exactly looking?

“Job or Employment”

Yes, in-fact more than 80% of the folks are looking for jobs rather than biz. But this Internet Ocean can't generate unlimited job opportunities. It can only generate unlimited business opportunities (There is a wide difference between biz opportunity & money making opportunity!)

Folks spend countless hours on the Internet searching for jobs. Obviously they don't find any job, because there is no job at all. But they find money making as well as biz opportunities; they join to such opportunities because it’s FREE. They don't read; they don't listen; they don't try to understand how the system works? They don't work. But they jump from program to program & biz to biz. They don't stay focused at a single point. They don't have long-term goals. But they live in the dream world counting million dollars!

In simple words majority of the “Work At Home” folks “Do Nothing & Expect Income.” There is one more chance that, they try to do too much! So at the beginning stage it would definitely cause for failure.

The one & only way to earn legal money on the Internet is to “sell a product” or “sell a service” Simple! But “work at home” folks realize this truth rarely & lately. By the time they realize this truth, they decide themselves “No, I can't sell anything on the Internet, I can't recruit anyone, Internet biz is no more fits to me, so I should quit this”.

An average of 40-60% folks decide so and run away from the Internet biz (sad truth for us) And they badmouth each & every programs or biz opportunity in which they have been involved.

Some time folks get attracted by “Do Nothing & Get Rich Schemes” (Scams!) If they have money they will throw it on these types of programs. “That's the END of Work At Home!”

So in Internet language, ”Work At Home” doesn't mean that “job” or “Employment”. It means business, but it has to be done like a job! Consistence, Persistence, Patience, Talent & Intelligence is important to have success on “Work At Home” programs on the Internet. And finally it's also matter of L-U-C-K

I personally wasted about six months to find a perfect “Work At Home Business” I tried all types of “Affiliate Programs”, “Network Marketing” “MLM”, “Get Paid To...” “Secret Agent (?)”, “Data Entry Scams” and more! I'm glad to say that I did not loss much money. Anyway finally I managed to find a best “Internet Based Home Business”. I don't know how to make Five Figure Six Figure or Seven Figure Income per month. But I know how to make a comfortable living on the Internet.

Can't you make money on the Internet? Don't Worry. At least you can have million dollars of Information & Knowledge on the Internet for FREE!

Is The "At Home" In Your Work At Home Business?

Have you ever thought about the fact that most people with a "home" business probably spend more time outside their home working their business, than actually being at home?

With the exception of certain types of home based businesses, most, whether in businesses of the traditional variety, such as real estate agents, mortgage brokers, etc., or network marketers, spend a great deal of time outside the home in an effort to build and maintain their businesses.

When it comes to network marketing the number one activity that takes place outside the home is probably the classic hotel and/or conference room meeting where people gather at least once a week to bring prospects to hear their company's business presentation.

Of course, industry veterans know that these meetings often turn into mere social gatherings, because the same people (representatives who are already in the business) usually keep showing up week after week, as opposed to the new prospects who are supposed to be getting into the business.

Many home business owners routinely meet prospects at the prospects' homes or offices, or have the prospect come to them in order to conduct a business presentation.

Yet another popular practice is to take your prospect to lunch or dinner to discuss your business proposal over a meal. Prospects often love it, because they get a free meal, usually with no obligation to join you in your business.

For some types of high dollar transactions, as in the type of business that is often conducted among larger businesses and organizations, taking your prospective customer, client, or new business partner out on the town may be justifiable. However, especially if you are involved in network marketing, the amount that you stand to make up front if a new prospect signs up may range from as little as nothing, to perhaps a few hundred dollars.

For example's sake, lets say that you are with a company where at your level in their compensation plan you earn $100 each time someone new comes into your business and qualifies for whatever your initial product/service purchase requirements are. As always, it is the consumption of the product that you are being paid for.

And let's say that for every 10 prospects you take to lunch 1 prospect typically signs up. Again, this is for example's sake, as your actual closing rate may be higher. However, especially for someone new, it's reasonable to assume that he or she may sign up as few as 1 prospect out of every 10.

Let's further assume an average lunch bill of $25. Again, this is being very conservative, as a typical lunch even for two can easily be higher.

Ok, let's do the math. You take 10 prospects to lunch at $25 each, and 1 signs up in your business, which earns you an up-front commission (when your check comes) of $100. $25 x 10 = $250 so you are now at a loss of $150 for your efforts. That's not including gas money, wear and tear on your car, or any sales aids or samples that you may have also given away to each prospect. So, conservatively, at this rate you're going to LOSE AT LEAST $150 for each and every person you bring into your business!

Again, your closing rate may be higher than 1 out of 10, and your initial compensation may be higher, perhaps even by hundreds of dollars. However, if you are like 9 out of 10 typical home business people or network marketers, the numbers above are probably very realistic. Many network marketing compensation plans pay considerably less than $100 in up-front money.

If you are doing hotel conference room meetings then your cost may be lower as you, along with all other representatives attending, are likely sharing in the expense of the room and facilities.

The above examples assume that you are working with prospects and/or representatives who are in your immediate local vicinity. Many network marketers travel out of town to grow their businesses. Sometimes this may be to sign up a new prospect. However, typically it is to provide support and assistance to new out of town people who have come into your organization. One thing that you'll quickly learn as you grow your business is that even if you only recruit and sponsor people locally, because they will have friends and family in other states and perhaps even other countries, it won't be long before any organization of any size is spread out quite far geographically.

Almost every industry or network marketing company also holds at least one annual company event or meeting, which all representatives are encouraged to attend. These events require yet more expense, time away from your main occupation (unless you are working your business fulltime), and even time away from your primary business. Sometimes you'll recruit someone along the way using the old "3-Foot Rule," (prospect anyone who gets within 3

feet of you) which is absolutely NOT one of the methods advocated here on ABCIncome.com. But otherwise, when you attend company functions you usually do so at the expense of taking time away from the activities that are actively making you money.

It can be true that you will gain enough new information and insight into your business that what you learn at these company functions can help you build your business even better, but seldom can you count on such an even to guarantee dollars into your bank account. Over the years I've watched countless people spend money they didn't have in their budgets in order to attend such events. That's because most such events cost you money, as opposed to making you money.

There is nothing wrong with company conventions, seminars, etc., as long as you can readily afford it, enjoy it, and, most importantly, can afford to pay for it out of PROFIT! If your business isn't making you enough money to pay for such a trip then wait until it does, unless you are already in a position to easily and comfortably afford the trip out of your existing budget (most likely from the income from your day job).

Not to digress too far away from the main theme of this article, but key rules to always remember in your business are to grow your business out of profit, spend as little money as possible on things that don't make you money, and what money you do spend try to invest wisely in those things that will make you money.

Lastly, be reasonable about how many functions you attend. Some groups of network marketers (usually not an official company sanctioned position) encourage or even demand their representatives to attend pep talks and rallies as often as once a month or more. Follow the guidelines already mentioned above: Can you afford it, and what impact will attending that function have on your business? Is it costing you money or making you money?

Returning to our original theme, even if you can afford activities like those just discussed above, do you want to spend that much time away from your home and family? Many people find that they are out and about so much, traveling to work with out of town groups, and attending functions, that they are tired and barely recover after returning from one before they are off to the next.

Even if your efforts are profitable the above methods can be among the least efficient ways of building a business. That's not to say it can't or doesn't work, many have built organizations of thousands that way, including me (in years past, as I use better and more efficient methods today). But ask yourself, if you could build an organization just as, if not more, effectively while still being able to spend as much time at home with your family as you would like, wouldn't that be better?

Sure, you can always take people to lunch, dinner, and travel, to socialize, but, especially with all of the tools that you now have at your disposal such as the telephone, conference lines, Internet, fax, etc., it simply isn't necessary to do so in order to build a successful and profitable business.

There are some people who just love and enjoy always being on the go, or socializing, etc. There too such things become a matter of personal preference. I know people, for instance, who, especially in years past before online bill pay, etc., love to pay almost all of their bills in person. For a stay at home parent, or someone not working fulltime, or a retired person, etc., they often view it as a way to get out of the house and keep active. However, if you employ the kinds of training and techniques that are available to allow you to build a growing, successful, and profitable business, right from the comfort of your own home, you will be busy with so many new prospects and representatives that you are unlikely to get bored sitting around home with nothing to do!

So, if you're happy with the way in which you are currently growing your business, which may include some of the methods above, that's fine. Some people still enjoy building their businesses in the traditional way, in person, one person or a few at a time. Is it really easier being a work at home mom?

Here's what I have to go through almost everyday.

In the middle of any kind of projects, be it just trying to write articles or making the details of my downlines' total points -- suddenly my four months baby is crying painfully. Turns out, her 4-years-old sister is showing her outrageous affection by pulling the baby's hair! She said, "But, there's dirt in her head, mom!"

This is the kind of situation that needed my immediate attention. By attention I mean, breastfeeding the baby -- usually takes 15 to 20 minutes while trying to explain to my older daughter about her wrong action (learning html is much more easier than having to have an argument with a toddler!).

One job done? Well, not exactly.

Still can't go back to my computer because then the big sister wants to go to the bathroom. And 10 minutes after that, my mom came and reported that the washing machine is broken! So the next 20 minutes I'm trying hard to be a mechanic -- but fail successfully -- and then suddenly remembers that I haven't prepared any lunch.

An hour has passed. The ideas that were previously in my head -- following me wherever I go and whatever I do, has gone. Laziness and tiredness are starting to come.

And that's just the typical day in a work at home mom's life ;-)

Try and search the internet about time management, working at home articles, sharing experiences with other stay at home moms. And you too will find out that working at home is just as challenging as working at the office.

Have you ever try making plans such as when to work, when to cook, when to breastfed the baby or basically do everything without any disturbances? Most of the other work at home moms will tell me the same thing. The plan will barely work.

So, what should we do then?

Me, I chose to just go

ahead and work according to the house chores schedule.

I know that my ideas will often be disturbed by my baby's crying or the time to prepare meals. That's okay because I chose to be a wahm and felt that I already have many advantages with this choice. Not, that I never complain or lose a temper...nope, my husband will tell you exactly ;-)

But what I can do right now is just being grateful for the choice that I have -- working at home and just try to do the best with the so called spare time I have. If I have to do the articles at 2 o'clock in the morning, so be it. The important thing is, my Editor-in-chief will received the translations at the time she opens her email the next morning.

If I have to stop my blogwalking because I need to breastfed my baby or my daughter wants to play barbie or nickjr.com, then that's what I would do.

Also, I found that I can only do one thing at a time. Whether it's for answering emails, updating my blogs, blogwalking or writing articles - one thing at a time.

I love to make use of the spare times I have like when I'm waiting for my little girl at school. Typing the ideas in my laptop while waiting in the car or read all the great articles I printed from the internet.

Well, this is the theory, won't be easy though.

But, having that thankful attitude is all that it takes to make it easier. My rewards so far includes being the first person to hear my babies' first word or a kiss from hubby for a wonderful dinner -- while checking out my monthly commissions of course ;-)

Is It Possible To Work From Home?

Have you ever wished that you could work from home? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, over 19 million people worked from home (either part-time or full-time) in 2001. It’s a growing trend in our society with the number steadily rising as many people are leaving the workplace in favor of a work-at-home career.

There are four main ways to make working from home possible:

1.Telecommute for your current employer – Many employers are beginning to see the benefits of allowing their employees to work from home. If you have a job that would be possible to do from home ask your employer to consider it. More and more employers are allowing employees to telecommute. This is an easy way to work from home while maintaining the security of a stable career. You must realize, though, that working from home may limit you in terms of advancing in your company. It’s important to think through the sacrifices that you may need to make in your situation to work from home.

2.Telecommute as an independent contractor – There are many companies that hire independent contractors to do work such as data entry, transcription and customer service from home. This can be an incredible opportunity as long as you’re willing to keep track of your own taxes and aren’t relying on the employer for insurance and other perks

There are many benefits to the company also, such as lower wages, not needing to provide insurance, or being able to offer a commission based position. The company may also choose to hire home workers so that they do not need to pay for space to house an office full of employees.

3.Own a direct sales/MLM home-based business – Many times these types of home-based businesses are overlooked, but they truly can bring an income and allow you to work from home. However, doing your research before joining a company is very important. Look for representatives of the company to speak with and, if possible, try to find someone who has been a representative for the company, but is no longer. They may be able to share some of the negative aspects of the business with you.

Also check with the Better Business Bureau and make sure that the

4.Begin your own home-based business – It can seem overwhelming to start your own business, but if you start small and have a good business plan it can be a very rewarding decision. You are able to be your own boss, have a very flexible schedule and work only when it is convenient for you.

When considering beginning your own business, make sure that you have found a niche that will allow you to serve customers that no one else is serving. When I began searching for a way to work from home, I spent time researching the different work at home websites available and realized that there was not a place for Christians to network and help one another work from home. I filled this niche with my website, CWAHM.com, and the response has been amazing. If you take your time and find a niche or unique product, you will have a much higher chance at success.

If you decide to begin your own business, you must also check your state and city about zoning laws, licensure requirements, etc. Contact an accountant to find out what percentage of sales you need to set aside for taxes as well as whether or not you’ll need to make quarterly tax payments.

Working from home is a big commitment and it can take some time to get started. It’s important to take the time to research what type of at-home position will work best for you. If you would like to telecommute, speak with your employer to see if it is a possibility. If you are looking into a home-based business, speak with others from the company or find a niche that you can fill with your own business. IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND A REPUTABLE WORK-FROM-HOME BUSINESS?

Have you been looking for a way to earn significant monthly income working from home? So have I. I‘ve actually spent hours searching for a reputable home-based business opportunity that is simple to implement and doesn‘t cost an arm and a leg. And amidst the dizzying array of possibilities, I finally found what I was looking for. I listed some specific criteria a business had to meet before I would consider joining it and promoting it. Internet Home Business - It’s Not That Easy!

I’ve written before about amount of email I receive in the form of link exchange requests। There’s no need to go into it all again but suffice to say, with seven websites with varying subject matter and content, I get my fair share of these requests by both email and through Linkmarket.net, the link exchange scheme in which I am a member. I mention this not because this is about the link requests, but about the opportunity that all these requests present to view hundreds of other websites each week, mostly newern ones and mostly home business or affiliate oriented.

In order to make a decision whether to link or not, I will look at each website, not only the PR and traffic ranking, but the basic appearance and layout will give me a reasonable insight into how serious they are, how much they have researched and planned their website and consequently their whole approach to their home business। I find this method is a reasonable means to predict if the website will still be around in six months and whether the owner will still be online at all.

I am sorry to say, while spending at least 4 - 5 hours a week at this activity, I'm disappointed at the amount of people who are literally 'throwing' a website together without any apparent planning (or basic knowledge about how to actually go about it)। The number of websites I see, which have clearly no chance of of serving a home business purpose at all, is staggering. What's more staggering is what some people seem to view as 'viable'.

Lack of content (and I mean none at all) and no organised effort to concentrate on any keywords or phrases at all, let alone a subject, are the most obvious and numerous। There are many sites which are simply one page, that's it. The page will contain two paragraphs on how "you've come to the right place to get..." whatever it is, then a few totally unrelated banners and 'obvious' affiliate links and perhaps a Google Adwords box.

Don't get me wrong, my purpose here is not to bemoan the quality of these hastily prepared and ill-equipped websites, nor is it to lament the failing abilities of those that have attempted them। My purpose is to impress on these people and others planning the same route that home based business, in any shape or form online has to be treated like any other business endeavour. Would these people put the same lack of effort and planning into the signage for their 'bricks and mortar' business?

No matter how many times you read that home business is easy and there's millions to be made so quickly with so little effort or knowledge, I'm afraid it's not true! I so often see the words, "no knowledge or effort necessary" and then the figure per month or year that you can (or WILL) earn। It's possible, but only WITH the right knowledge and effort.

Ask anyone who has spent more than six months online, trying to earn a dollar (not necessarily an income) and they'll tell you that you can't expect to be successful without at least some basic knowledge and a fair bit of effort। Of course, there are those who have been lucky enough to strike something at the right time, in the right place and manage to be hugely successful in a short period, but these are few.

Like any business endeavour, you need to plan, you need to research and you need to go about your chosen business systematically, with the right tools and the right information। The main tool, the one most people will have as their first an only impression of you and your product or service, is your website. How can it simply be an 'afterthought' or a hastily thrown together page with no thought as to how it appears to those who may visit.

A reasonable imaging option usually comes with most operating programs। They have their limitations, of course, but until you can invest in something more elaborate, these programs can be used to put together a reasonable header or logo. Goodness, website templates, some of which are not too bad, are free! There's no reason why anyone shouldn't be able to come up with, at least, a presentable website (mine are certainly not works of art, but I believe they are 'presentable'). Of course, in order for someone who has no experience online, they will need to include a little html or php knowledge in their 'research' phase.

Content and and concentration on specific keywords and phrases is critical if anyone wishes to have a chance in the Search Engines। How to right decent copy and the simple knowledge about what methods to use to attract or to not 'put-off' your audience is as important however, so many tend to go into an online business without, it would seem, much of a grasp of any of this.

There are numerous forums that new webmasters can go to for friendly advice from those who have been at it for years and a home business with a website has to have a 'webmaster', like it or not। I've had people say to me that they want to get into an Internet home business but they don't want to bother with learning about html etc. My advice to them in this case, is to forget it, unless you have hundreds to pay for someone to build your site and then to maintain it. What kind of support and training does the Internet company offer? What kind of support and training do you want when you start up your home business? Do you want ongoing training ? Or just a Smart Start Training ?

4. GREAT PRODUCT

Does the company offer exclusive product like vitamin or special information ? Is it easy to sale ? Is it a quality product ? Does it have a money back guaranteed ? Are they to pricey to buy ?

5. COMPENSATION PLAN

What is a Web hosting Company?

A Web host is a company that provides server space for your website. You can think of a web host as a commercial building. The web host provides space for your website just as a commercial building provides space for your shop or office.

What are some of the things you should look for when choosing a web host? The criteria for choosing a free web host and a commercial web hosting solution are slightly different although they do overlap.

A) Web Space

Does it have enough space for your needs? If you envisage that you will expand your site eventually, you might want to cater for future expansion. Most sites use less than 5MB of web space. Indeed, at one time, one of my other web sites, thefreecountry.com, used less than 5MB of space although it had about 150 pages on the site. Your needs will vary, depending on how many pictures your pages use, whether you need sound files, video clips, etc.

B) Bandwidth allotment

Nowadays, many free web hosts impose a limit on the amount of traffic your website can use per day and per month. This means that if the pages (and graphic images) on your site is loaded by visitors beyond a certain number of times per day (or per month), the web host will disable your web site (or perhaps send you a bill).

It is difficult to recommend a specific minimum amount of bandwidth, since it depends on how you design your site, your target audience, and the number of visitors you're able to attract to your site. In general, 100MB traffic per month is too little for anything other than your personal home page and 1-3GB traffic per month is usually adequate for a simple site just starting out. Your mileage, however, will vary.

C) Reliability and speed of access

This is extremely important. A site that is frequently down will lose a lot of visitors. If someone finds your site on the search engine, and he tries to access it but find that it is down, he'll simply go down the list to find another site. Slow access is also very frustrating for visitors (and for you too, when you upload your site). How do you know if a host is reliable or fast? If you can't get feedback from anyone, one way is to try it out yourself over a period of time, both during peak as well as non-peak hours. After all, it is free, so you can always

experiment with it.

== 4. How To Promote Your Business Website ==

Write An Article: Write an article promoting your site or product. Write an article on a hot topic many people would like more information on and submit it to various e-zines. How do you find out what's hot? Visit a few of the message boards and see what questions are raised often. Search Engines: Thousands of search engines exist on the Internet. But, you should only be concerned with the top eight or ten. You should manually submit to the top eight: Alta Vista, Excite, Yahoo, Hotbot, Lycos, Northern Light, Infoseek, Webcrawler, and use one of the FREE automatic submission services like *SubmitPlus* to handle the smaller search engines.

Directories: List your site here too. Directories organize sites into categories. Good examples of Directories: Yahoo, Magellan.

Ezine Listings: If you have an e-zine to promote along with your site. Why not list it with one of the many e-zine services on the Internet. E-zine Library is a good one to start with.

Free Classifieds: You will have to submit to a ton of FREE classifieds to get any significant traffic. Why? You are competing with thousands of other Ads. Remember to work on your Ad copy and make it attention grabbing. Go to one of the popular search engines, type in Free Classifieds, and surf to the top 20 classified sites for beginners. Often, these sites will lead you to several other Free Classified Sites. In response you'll get a stack of e-mail thanking you for listing your site while barking their promo. Best to get one of those free email accounts. Hot mail is a good one. So is Yahoo mail.

FFA Pages. Free For All's are worth a try. Be prepared for a avalanche of e-mails from FFA web site owners. If your title is attention grabbing you will get a few clicks. Good Attention grabbing headlines, FREE, Limited Time, Limited Offer, Proven, Secrets, and many more if you brainstorm. Check out the sales literature delivered to you by regular mail. Check and see what headlines grab your attention. And why? Incorporate them into your Online Ads.

Tell Friends And Family: If your friends, family, acquaintances, have an Internet Connection, e-mail them telling them about your new website, and ask them to visit often. Offer a FREE incentive if they tell a few friends to surf over. Perhaps, a FREE Ad in your e-zine.

Leave Business Cards or Flyers: Leave these promo pieces with small businesses in your community. All relevant contact information; email address, URL, telephone number, should be included. Offer a freebie to anyone who visits your site. A free e-book, report. == IN CONCLUSION ==

Think of your first six months primarily as a training period. Don't expect large earnings until after you've educated yourself.

If You Work From Home In One Office, Keep Both Of Your Offices Tidy!

If you work from home you don't need me to remind you that there is a price to pay for this luxury. You may save on rent but you have to work hard to keep a balance. If your work space starts to get mixed up with your living space then in the worst case scenario you can end up unhappy at home and unhappy at work. Putting the problems with your physical work space to one side, what about your virtual work space, your virtual office?

If you also work online then you will know that sometimes information is stored on paper (hard copy) and sometimes it is stored on your PC and sometimes it is stored on both mediums. But as your business grows, so does the amount of information that you need to store. What then becomes critical is the organisation of your information.

This article aims to highlight just how important it is to be organised when managing your files and folders on your PC. I can't give you a script-like formula because every different person will have different methods but the most important thing that applies to everyone is to realise just how important this part of the job is. If you choose to learn the hard way (as I did) then you will come to a complete dead end, struggle to make money online and you will realise that -

1. You must use consistency when naming folders. Every seperate individual can use different wordings and techniques (as long as you work alone) but you must consistently use them throughout to organise your folders and files on your PC and on your server. This is a good habit which can be used throughout the different areas of your work, such as on your websites.

2. If you don't know where to start, just remember that the ideal system is based on logic. For example this is a quick example of one of my folders - Top folder - Work 1st level down - Folder1 - Work in progress, Folder2 - Completed work 2nd level down in folder 1 - Folder 1 - Articles, Folder 2 - eBooks 2nd level down in folder 2 - Folder 1 - Articles, Folder 2 - eBooks

This is just a quick example. You may have many more folders (branches) in the tree and I've made it a simple example just to demonstrate the point. You're probably thinking, "So? That's obvious" and it's meant to be. My point is that if you look at your folders you will more than likely find that they have 'lost the logic' somewhere along the line. Which leads me nicely to point three......

3. Even the most organised person needs to regularly 'spring clean' their folders and sweep away the 'dust'. It's a horrible job but it's got to be done. When your physical office is untidy it is somewhat easier to get around to doing the tidying up. Once you can't find anything or can hardly open the door then it is easy to decide that it's time for a tidy up. But it's not so easy to get around to spring cleaning the PC and the effects of an unruly 'virtual' filing system is much more destructive to your 'work from home' business.

4. Don't be scared

to create a system that seems to have too many folders. For some reason the human brain is naturally more likely to avoid having too many folders than it is to avoid having unorganised and poorly named folders. But this is back to front. When you are managing your folders remember that when you get to a point where you are about to split a folder and create two from it, it is always preferable to do this than not. If a little voice in your head says, "Don't split them, you'll have too many folders if you carry on like this" - just ignore it and split the folders! This is an example -

You have a folder called widgets which you have created to contain any information that you find/create on widgets. You swipe an article on widgets by someone else plus you write your own article about widgets. You find some text that you want to keep because it teaches you stuff that you need about widgets and you also buy an eBook about widgets. There are two important things to consider -

1. It is better to create four new folders in the widgets folder than to just throw all four items in the folder. Why? Because it might seem when there is only four items that it doesn't matter, but you can be sure that in a short while you will have thirty different items in there and the whole thing becomes a mess. So go and create four folders which could be named - a)other people's (widget) articles b)my (widget) articles c)(widget) swipe file d)my widget study purchases (for the eBook)

2. Sometimes before you create the new folder system, you may have to make decisions. For example, using the above widget example - after you have dealt with widgets you may go on to do similar studies of a hundred other products. Then you will end up with a hundred different folders, each concerning a different product. This may be OK, but it may also be better to have all the articles by other people in one folder for all the different products, all the swipe files in one folder etc. The point is again that there is no hard and fast rule except for these two golden rules of folder management -

1. Do allow the time for this organisational task. It is important and it always takes twice as long to go backwards and reorganise it once it descends into chaos.

2. Try to think ahead and design systems that will work at the moment and will more than likely work in the future as your business grows and changes.

Remember - being organised may be boring but it's possibly the most vital but most undervalued hidden ingredient of every successful online business.

Set your working hours

Office space

Working from home means that you have to set your office up either in a small corner of the bedroom, setup a special home office in a special room, or you can set your office up in a small corner in the living room. Help your kids understand that whenever you’re working, you are not to be disturbed. The documents and equipment in the home office area is not to be drawn on, spilt on, torn, removed or damaged.

Be serious about your work
Whenever you’re working, you should be serious about work. You can do the following to help you work more effectively:-

1.Work or do the most important things whenever your kids are off somewhere else – like kindergarten, tuition, music school or visiting a cousin.

2.Setup a special table or space where your kids do their homework whenever you’re working.

3.Get someone to mind the kids while you’re working during your working hours

4.Work when the kids are taking a nap

5.Spend a lot of time with your kids and whenever you’re having family time, ignore
business phone calls or office matters.

6.When you are working, tell your kids to get help from someone else

Use an organizer
For someone who is working from home, the line between ‘work’ and ‘family’ is blurred. Therefore, it’s important for us to learn how to schedule our work and use an organizer properly. This will help us meet deadlines, set priorities and remember important tasks. You can use a normal scrapbook, a journal, an exercise book, a small notepad (the 555 kind, even), use your Outlook program, use an Excel file, use a Microsoft Word document…whatever works for you! The point is that you need to use it consistently, refer to it, update it and add new tasks to it.

Don’t check your email all the time
Yes, you need to check your email regularly but when you check your email too often or keep your inbox open all the time, you’ll get distracted with new tasks and neglect the earlier ones. This way, you will get more and more backlogs and in the end, some of the older projects will take longer to finish. Check your email often at the same time everyday, but not all the time.

Don’t work all the time
Those without discipline will work only when they feel like it and when they don’t, they’ll do something else. This kind of attitude towards work is not advisable. But on the other hand, workaholics should also learn how to let work go whenever the time comes. If you feel stressed out, maybe that’s because you’ve been working too much because your work is right there in your house. You’ll never get far enough away from your work. So, learn to switch your computer off and let go!! Just go spend some time with the neglected spouse and kids.

This may be a decade of tremendous corporate profits and economic
growth, but for the vast majority of North Americans, the 90's
have been a dismal, uphill climb. And many economists believe
that this next, new millennium won't be getting better any
time soon.

Why?

Changing business and government attitudes are the reason. There
has seemingly been more anti-business legislation in the last
decade than in any other this century. Stronger employment and
labor laws, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the
Comprehensive Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA, which
includes mandating health insurance for workers for a period
of time after they leave employment), safety laws, much tougher
laws for discharging workers, more liabilities for lawsuits,
Family Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (which is
creating immense numbers of lawsuits), along with higher minimum
wages and fringe benefits.

Just reading this list is exhausting.

While these acts have beneficial and protective aspects, they
have also encouraged businesses to move their facilities. That
"sucking sound" popularized by Ross Perot is not just down to
Mexico, but elsewhere as well. The result has been a dramatic
loss of heavy industry in the U.S.

The young and the middle-aged alike are realizing that their
dream of "having a job with a company forever" is an illusion.
Companies have been downsizing, rightsizing, and capsizing for
some time now, and they continue to do so - more now than ever
before. Even the federal and state governments are getting into
the act with layoffs and attrition of jobs.

In addition to all this uncertainty and mutual lack of loyalty
between companies and employees, even the workers who do not
keep their jobs have no guarantee of promotions due to the
shrinking number of management positions. These circumstances
aggravate the already tryingly long commutes in rush hour traffic
and increasingly typical frustrated boss-spelled backwards, that
double S-O-B.

Finally, if all this isn't bad enough, under recent tax laws
employees are shafted more than ever with limits and thresholds
for their employee deductions and higher social security tax
limits. This results in more couples working than ever before
and, on many occasions, working more than one job. It is now
almost impossible to have only one job in the family and make
ends meet! Today, many households need three incomes just to
survive.

Sadly, even having more than one job does not produce any major
positive effect on most people's bank accounts. Why? Because of
tax laws. This was well illustrated in 1994 by Jane Bryant Quinn
in her Woman's Day article on "How to Live on One Salary."

Where The Money Goes

Ms. Quinn's example assumed that a man was earning $40,000 per
year. His wife (we will call her Lori) wasn't working. They
had more month than money. (Sound familiar?) Lori subsequently
got an administrative job for $15,000 per year. You would think
this would improve the family's financial situation, but when
Ms. Quinn examined the economics of getting this extra income,
the results were startling!

Lori had to pay federal and state taxes on her new income.
Since they filed jointly, the family's combined income was
what established their tax bracket. She paid $4,500 in new
taxes, most of which was non-deductible, for federal and state
income tax.

Lori had social security withheld from her paycheck at the rate
of 7.65 percent, which amounted to an additional nondeductible
amount of $1,148 being extracted from her salary. She also had
to commute to work 10 miles a day round trip, which is probably
conservative for most people. This resulted (in 1995) in
nondeductible commuting costs of $696.

Lori also had some child care expenses, which give a partial
tax credit. Ms. Quinn figured that the amount spent over and
beyond the tax credit was $4,250 per year.

Lori also ate out each day with colleagues, spending an average
of $5 per day, five days a week. This results in a nondeductible
expense of $1,250 per year. (I would love to know where she
ate fore only $5!)

Now that Lori has a job, she has to have professional clothing,
this means a hefty dry cleaning bill. Ms. Quinn assumed that
Lori's increased expenses here amounted to an extra $1,000 per
year, nondeductible, of course.

Finally, with both spouses working, Lori wasn't in the mood to
cook dinner every night. They bought more convenience foods and
ate out more frequently. This resulted in increased food costs
of a nondeductible $1,000 per year in minimum.

Add it all up and Lori's take home pay was a paltry $1,156 a
year, for which she had to put up with a daily commute, an
unpleasant boss, and corporate hassles. (See the following
summary of all of these numbers, so you can do the math for
yourself.)

No wonder more and more people are starting home-based
businesses. In fact, there are currently an estimated 30
million people working from their homes. This number is
expected to more than triple, to 97 million, by the year 2000,
and to keep on growing. This has become and will continue to
be one of the greatest mass movements in the U.S.

Why a Home-Based Business Makes So Much "Cents"

There are many reasons why so many people are favoring
home-based over traditional business.

There is no commute (unless you have a really big home), no
boss, little if any chance of lawsuits, must lower overhead,
no employees, (or few), and far fewer government restrictions.
In fact, many of the laws previously cited don't apply to small
firms with few or no employees. It is for these reasons,
according to Entrepreneur magazine, that 95 percent of
home-based businesses succeed in their first year and achieve
an average income of $50,250 per year with many earning much more.

There are really two sets of tax laws in this country. One
is for employees, and it allows deductions for individual
retirement accounts, 401(k)s (if you have one set up by your
company), interest and property taxes on your home (which some
in Congress want to do away with ), and charity. Then there
are the laws for home-based business people who conduct their
business either full-time or part-time.

They can deduct, with
proper documentation ,their house, their spouse, and even
children (by hiring them), their business vacations, their
cars, and their food with colleagues. They can also set up a
pension plan that makes any government plan seem paltry by
comparison.

For Lori - and for you - the meaning of all this is simple:

Lori earned $15,000 in salary as an employee, but took home
only $1,156. She could have netted the entire $15,000 had she
earned it in a home-based business!

This is an increase of almost 13 times her take-home pay as
an employee.

Notice that Lori is not spending dramatically more money than
she is currently spending. She would eat out anyway, go on
trips and drive her car the same as before. By having a
home-based business, however, many of their expenses become
deductible. This concept is known as "redirecting expenses."
With a home-based business, she can now deduct some of the
expenses that she is incurring anyway.

Renegade Strategy: If you don't have a home-based business,
start one!

In addition to all the benefits mentioned above, Congress
will subsidize you while you are growing your home-based
business. If your home-based business produces a tax loss
in the first year or so, you can use that tax loss against
any other income you have. It can be used against wages earned
as an employee, dividends, pensions, or interest income-or
you can use the loss against your spouse's earnings if you
file a joint return.

If the tax loss exceeds all your income for this year, no
problem. You can carry back the loss two years and get a
refund from the IRS for up to the last two years of income
taxes paid, or you can carry over the loss twenty years. You
read it right: You can offset up to 20 years of income!

Here's an example:

Mike earns $50,000 in a job with the government. If he starts
a home-based business that generates a tax loss of 10,000, he
only pays tax on $40,000.

Renegade Tip:
You can never lose a properly documented business deduction.

In fact, if everyone in the U.S., who is employed full-time
began a home-based business, used the strategies I suggest,
each household could easily save between $2000 and $10,000
in taxes each year. If all employees in the U.S. did this,
the tax bite of the IRS would be reduced by a whopping
estimated 300 billion dollars annually. Of course, Congress
would have to change the laws for this to occur.

Can You Succeed In a Home-Based Business?

Research has constantly shown that it rarely the business that
determines success or failure. It is usually the business owner.
Why does one person succeed and another fail at the same business?

Two words - Knowledge and Action.

Some people want the benefits of having their own business, but
they don't take action. The result is business failure.

Then there are the people who are always working. The take
action but still fail. The reason is that they are not taking
the correct actions, the knowledgeable actions, that will bring
the desired results. Again, business failure.

It's like drilling for oil. If you set up a drilling rig in your
back yard, it is going to fail at producing oil unless your back
yard is in Texas or Alaska. The same rig in a good field will
produce a gusher, because it was placed where oil was known to
exist.

The point is that most people who get excited about starting
their own home-based business do so without all the necessary
knowledge. Consequently, many people quit before they acquire,

another strategy....

Duplicating the strategy of others is much quicker and more
effective than going to the school of hard knocks.

It is also known as modeling, which is well-illustrated by the
way The McDonalds Corporation blazed a trail to success that
many have since followed.

In the early 1950's McDonald's and other start-up companies
discovered that they could grow many times faster than the
conventional firms through franchising. Instead of the company
investing millions of dollars to build new stores, they let
independent franchise do it for them.

It seemed like a great idea, but at first no one figured out
how to make it succeed on a consistent basis; therefore, the
media attacked relentlessly and continually. News articles
featured destitute families who had lost their life savings
through franchising schemes. Virtually every state attorney
general in the U.S. condemned the new marketing method. Some
congressmen even tried to outlaw franchising entirely.

Over the years, however, Ray Kroc and his management team at
McDonald's developed a turnkey franchise business team at
McDonald's franchise. The newfound success-from the
system-turned public perception of franchising around. Today,
virtually every franchise business models-to some extent-the
franchise business system created by McDonald's, making
franchising one of the most respected ways of doing business
in the world.

Modeling is simply learning what other successful people
have done to achieve success in a specific area, and then
doing the same thing. Someone said that "education is the
shortcut to experience." With modeling, you literally
leverage your own learning with the collective years of
learning through experience of many others. Modeling the
success of others saves both time and money and reduces
frustration and stress.

Identifying Work At Home Success Characteristics

Do people that are successful in home based businesses share some common characteristics and, if so, what are the primary ones?

The dictionary defines successful as:

having a favorable outcome, or
having obtained something desired or intended, or
having achieved wealth or eminence

When applied to a home business, I think the definition of the word successful involves a combination of financial gain, time flexibility, and being able to call your own shots (being your own boss). The order of importance will vary from person to person.

I have had the good fortune to be quite successful with home-based internet businesses. No, that is not completely accurate, I have had success because I have invested a lot of sweat equity in my work at home business activities.

Having spent many years in the corporate world, I am a firm believer in the team aspect of business and so I naturally gravitated toward network marketing instead of trying to go solo selling products/services and competing with the big players like Yahoo, Amazon and the other well known names.

After doing considerable research, I found a very well established and financially solid internet-based company to work with. Using my business experience in the "offline world" and developing my internet marketing skills on the fly in an OJT (aka: on-the-job-training) format, things have gone very well and I recently spent some time trying to identify some of the primary traits that are common in my most successful team members.

Whether you're breeding bird dogs, or race horses, or drafting college football players to play in the NFL...it's important to develop "markers" that can be very useful in predicting success. From my offline, traditional, business experience I have known this from the get-go, but for some reason I was slow to learn (or, was it re-learn?) that identifying the people with a high likelihood of success is even more important when developing an online network marketing business that depends upon teamwork.

Reflecting back on many of the truly successful people I have worked with in network marketing, I made a list of the numerous success factors that emerged when I assessed each person individually. After compiling the list, three factors seemed to stand out as being the most common success indicators. In no particular order, these factors were:

approaching the business with a long term perspective. It takes a lot of time to become an "overnight success"
exhibiting the tenacity of a pit bull
being able to ride the emotional roller coaster (two steps forward and one step back) in the early stages of developing the business

Just because a person has these characteristics, it does not ensure success and, on the flip side, a person is not necessarily doomed to failure just because he or she does not possess them all.

Starting a home-based business involves many tasks. It
quickly becomes very important to make as many of these
tasks as easy as possible. Speed and efficiency are tops
when it comes to getting work done. If you are a "hunt-
and-peck" typist, one of the most important first goals
you should have is to learn to type properly and quickly.

Accomplishing this feat will give you great practice in
setting and reaching goals for your business, and will
benefit you from that day on.

Many tasks related to running an online (or offline)
home-based business require typing skills. The less
time you spend typing (answering email, writing ads
and sales copy, developing info products, etc.),
the more you'll have to spend on other very important
things. Website tweaking, marketing, and promotion

Look in the "bargain bin" at your favorite local store
(or your favorite online seller) for last year's
version of a typing course on CD-ROM. A good choice

Set aside one hour a night, for two months (yeah, that's

a Mavis Beacon CD). Learn to do the exercises with correct
posture and error-free. As the weeks go by, your speed will
increase, and your confidence will grow.

In two months time, you will be typing "by touch",
being able to look at your copy, while your fingers are
typing away. Your increased efficiency will allow you
to blow through answering emails. Type or retype your
articles and ads with blazing speed. Save countless
hours over the course of the year.

How to utilize your cash investment in your home.

Have you ever noticed how hard it can be to get to the equity in your home?

Recently I had a client come to my office who had quite a bit of equity in their home. I’m not talking about $50,000 or even $200k, I’m talking about over $250k. I was asked to get 80% out of their home so that they could re-invest the monies elsewhere.

From an application stand point this person had no reason not to qualify. They had great credit scores, tons of assets and the loan-to-value on the home was nothing to be concerned about. The only problem we came across was that they were business owners and had taken a loss on their taxes the year before therefore we could not show any income documentation.

Lenders have ways of protecting their interest through limiting cash out and verifying their investments. Although my client had everything with exception to the income documentation we were limited to getting $250k out of their home. Locked into a good rate, we moved forward and closed the deal that limited us with getting the cash out.

We then went looking for a lender that would be

more willing to give us the cash out but knew it would be at a higher rate due to the potential for risk. The rate for the rest of the money turned out to be about 1% higher.

This got me thinking about utilizing my home as an investment:

1.How much does the bank pay you when you pay down your loan, yet they maintain their right to take your property until you have paid your entire debt?
2.What happens when you find yourself in a difficult situation and need to pay less than the monthly payment?
3.What happens when you need to get to the money you have diligently worked so hard to pay down? You have to qualify, yet you own the asset.

My recommendation is to maintain a way to get to your investment. I am not so much recommending that you take out the money as you at least set up a Line of Credit so that you can get to the money should you need it.

There are a number of words that should make you think about whether or not the opportunity you are considering is a legitimate home based business. If the advertisement uses words like downline, upline, powerline, quick, easy, no work, no experience, unlimited income potential, residual income, turnkey, tiers, big money fast, or make money while you sleep then you want to proceed with great caution! Ask some of the most successful people in the world, and they will tell you that it was hard work that earned them their money. Most of the advertisements are probably not legitimate home based business opportunities, but get-rich-quick scams that will not reap the results you want.

Check into any company closely before getting involved to find out if they are a legitimate home based business opportunity. Call the Better Business Bureau and other consumer and business

organizations to find out if the company is a legitimate home based business opportunity. Also, see how long the company has been in business. It may be a legitimate home based business that has just started up, but they may not be the most reliable company yet.

Watch out for companies that want you to pay for information, to send an SASE, or call a 900 number. If they are a legitimate home based business opportunity, then they should have enough in their budget to send you information for free. Calling a 900 number is the same as paying for information, and you should not have to pay for anything from a legitimate home based business.

How to Tackle the Three Major Stresses Associated with Every Home-Based Business

Owning your own home-based business is by and large a very rewarding, exciting endeavor. You can set your own schedule, and be where you want, when you want. You can oftentimes forego the commute to a "regular job" and save money on gas and other "niceties" that are expensive in the work-a-day world, such as lunches, parking fees, etc.

There are unexpected pitfalls and disadvantages, though, in the owning and operating of a home-based business. Some are psychological, some are emotional, and others are purely physical. The unexpected stresses of a home-based business are really one of the major obstacles that need to be overcome by business owners. Many new business owners are unprepared for just how much stress is involved, actually.

Home-based business stresses usually fall into three overall categories:

Psychological : Employees, Finances, Legal, and Operations
Emotional: Family, Friends, Change of Personal Routines, Personal Disruptions, Isolation
Physical: Sedentary Lifestyle, Poor Eating Habits, Overwork

Many business owners, in order to prevent the psychological stress will have plans in place for dealing with these particular stress factors, prior to their occurrence. This is a proactive approach that is infinitely better than having a reactive approach to these occurrences.

Each business owner should have a financial plan in place for the times when orders or clients are few and far between (slow times), as well as a good accountant to call when necessary. Each business owner should also have a lawyer who they trust and can turn to for advice if necessary (we do live in a very litigious society). And each business owner should have a plan for sickness among employees and hiring and firing protocols firmly in place. Machinery and replacement of business supplies should also be well planned in advance, and purchased according to well laid out plans for expenditures.

Leadership skills will need to be developed, as a new business owner who is used to being part of a team, will find working alone and "being in charge" a somewhat difficult transition at first. Books on leadership skills abound and it is a good idea to do readings on the development of these to proactively avoid the psychological stress that comes with this change in roles. Working alone and making decisions alone is quite different from the conformity and decisions made within a group.

If a proactive approach is taken, the psychological stresses of a new business can easily be prevented, or at least lessened.

The emotional stresses of a home-based business are usually a bit more difficult to ascertain and tackle when they occur. Some of these stress factors can come directly from well-meaning family and friends, unfortunately, and the approach is of course, much different. Since a home-based business is directly tied usually to the home life of an individual, there is less chance to escape these stresses, than with a traditional method of employment. A new birth in a family, a death of a loved one, illness, or simply a change of schedule of another family member, can greatly impact the daily workings and routine of a home-based business.

In addition, family and friends may view the business owner as "being at their disposal" all day now, as the business owner is now "home" much of the time. These well meaning individuals may call or visit all the time, and also expect the business owner to take care of their needs before the needs of the business. This is simple human nature, but is very distracting for the business owner. The only way this can be successfully overcome is to make plans well ahead of time for any changes in routine, if possible, and adjust the schedule accordingly as the changes occur. Well meaning family and friends need to be told with certainty that there are "business hours" and "personal hours" and a business owner needs to remain firm in their resolve in regard to these issues.

Stressing over emotional stress will just

escalate an already stressful situation.

Another unexpected emotional stress comes many times from the feeling of isolation and loneliness that business owners may experience. Business owners many times are unprepared for the time they now find they spend alone within the parameters of their home-based businesses. A home-based business owner, while relieved to leave the workforce, sometimes does not realize that the workforce provided social opportunities that are now missing from their lives. Many hours may be spent alone each day, which can lead to loneliness and even depression in some cases.

The best approach to combating this type of isolation is to actively plan social opportunities. Planned outings with family and friends should be made regularly. Business owners may also join community groups that expose them to other business owners or others within the community. The local Chamber of Commerce and other volunteer groups are a great way to make connections for the business and also enhance the social experiences of business owners. No one can exist in a void, so the social aspects of a business can't be ignored.

Finally, owning and operating your own home-based business brings with it some purely physical stresses. Like most office jobs, a home-based business can lead to a more sedentary lifestyle, as owners may spend most of their days in the running of the business, either slumped in an office chair, or hunched over a computer, depending upon the requirements of the business. Because of the long hours involved in any business, business owners may also eat "on the run", grabbing whatever is at their disposal, rather than planning meals, which compromises their nutrition. The sedentary lifestyle and bad eating habits can lead to weight gain and other physical ailments associated with poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles: high cholesterol, lack of energy, loss of muscle tone, and a deficiency of vitamin D from being indoors more than usual.

The sedentary lifestyle is the easiest however, of the stresses to avoid or to change. All it takes is a dedication to an exercise routine that includes some form of daily physical exercise, and an adherence to a diet that is well planned and nutritious. Just some planning is needed and some will power in order to stay focused on achieving physical activity daily and good nutrition. It would be beneficial, if at all possible, to join a gym or health club, as the physical and emotional stresses can be avoided by belonging to one, as a gym also provides social opportunities. Even a simple walk each day can increase exercise, exposure to sunlight, and create social opportunities.

A tendency to do too much each day, is a syndrome many business owners fall prey to also. Overwork can leave anyone run down, and open to many diseases as the immune system becomes compromised. A business owner is of course, very excited and energetic about the business, which can lead into this syndrome of overwork. A schedule should be maintained to combat this syndrome, with set hours for "doing business" and set hours for "relaxation" included in each day. Trying to do too much all the time just leads business owners into a decrease of productivity, rather than an increase of productivity.

As you can see, having a home-based business, while very rewarding in many ways, can have many deleterious effects on the physical, mental and emotional states of business owners. Many business owners fail to plan for these changes, and yet, if planning is done, the negative effects can be minimized to a great degree.

If a business owner takes care of themselves and their own needs, overall, the business will also profit from this positive behavior! A happy, healthy business owner means a happy, healthy business!

Unless we devote enough time for our home business we cannot expect to get positive results. Just setting up a home business is not sufficient. It will not run on its own.

You may think that you are fully occupied with your home management and left with no free time at your disposal, even though you wished it so. If you really want to make some extra bucks from home along with managing your home and kids, lack of time cannot be considered as an excuse. If that strong will is there, all that you have to do is make adjustments with your routine work at home and proper time management. It can be easily achieved by little bit of planning and organising your routine work.

1. It is worth remembering the old saying, �If there is a will there is a way�. If you organize your work in a better way you will be surprised to find that extra time that you very badly needed to devote towards your home based business.

2. Spend some time thinking to find out where your time is spent more than it is absolutely needed. Ask yourself �Can I manage this work by reducing 15 minutes of my time spent for this�? If more of your time is spent in cooking you have to sit and think how you can finish your cooking faster and get some time from that task. The easier thing will be if you plan what you are going to do in advance instead of rushing each time. A planned work can be finished faster than the one done without any planning.

3. Teaching the kids to be self- disciplined and self-reliant is another method to find time. If they can do some of their work without your help you will get some free time. The older child can be given the responsibility of taking care of the younger ones when you are busy with your home business or other work, for which don�t forget to reward them for their understanding. Also engage them with something they enjoy doing when you are busy with your work.

4. Are you spending more time watching television? Do you think it is absolutely essential to spend that much time? By giving up some of your regular serials and soaps you will find some extra time at your disposal.

Not only the ones mentioned above, anything which takes your time such as gardening, shopping, paying bills, running errands, visiting friends and relatives, afternoon naps, chatting and gossiping with friends etc can be reevaluated and you will be able to squeeze some time there.

In the beginning, this type of adjustments will be little difficult, but soon you will see its worth. But once your mind is set for finding time to work for your home business, gradually it will become a practice of finishing your work faster. You will soon find the extra time for what you always wanted to do.
