What is the difference between a small business that makes it and one that does not? Most likely, the one that was successful engaged in some effective marketing. Wise marketing is critical for owners of home-based businesses for a number of reasons:
1. Marketing keeps you ahead of the competition 2. Marketing brings you a steady stream of revenue 3. Marketing provides leads for future sales 4. Marketing helps increase awareness about your business
Marketing is not something you just jump into, however. It requires careful examination and evaluation. Not every method, after all, will lead to the benefits mentioned above.
When it comes to selecting the methods you use with your business, remember to keep in mind your target audience and your budget, then start narrowing the list of possibilities. You may also want to try a few of these marketing methods which have been proven effective for other home-based businesses:
Affiliate Programs
Almost all home-based businesses can work with an affiliate program. With this type of program, you recruit other people to sell your products/services and reward them with a percentage of the revenue (usually 3 to 10%).
The mechanics of these programs works like a restaurant franchise. Because your recruits are now associated with your company's name, you want to be sure that they are maintaining your standards of quality and professionalism, so many affiliate programs include ready-made web sites, sales materials, and more.
These recruits then attempt to make sales on your behalf. The benefit is that all of their marketing efforts (beyond what you provide) are not part of your business's expenses, and they have the potential to reach new segments of potential clients and customers.
Giveaways
This type of marketing is one of the most popular with all businesses and can be handled in at least two ways: free gifts with a purchase and/or contests.
You have probably come across ads or web sites that sell e-books or other products and offer a number of free gifts with the purchase of the product. The lure of freebies helps people make the decision to purchase. You can do the same thing with your product or service. Keep in mind that whatever you offer as a free gift should be inexpensive to produce so that you don't lose money on the deal.
Contests can also be quite effective if done creatively. For example, if your business was selling
e-books, you could hold a contest with the grand prize being a free copy of one of your top-selling e-books.
But what about second place? Many people don't realize that there's no rule or law against giving a prize to every person who enters your contest so why not reward all of the other people who entered with a significant discount on the price of that same e-book? Many of those second place winners will take the discount and make a purchase.
Search Engine Optimization
If you do any business online, an important part of your marketing efforts should be search engine optimization or SEO. SEO essentially means that you tweak your site so that it appears near the top of search engine results for certain keywords.
Generally this involves repeating those keywords frequently and placing keywords in headlines, meta tags, and introductory paragraphs. While it may sound easy, most businesses turn their SEO efforts over to professionals. If bringing an expert in fits your marketing budget, you may want to enlist their assistance.
Referral Reward Programs
Another type of program aimed at bringing people to your site is a type of referral reward program. During the Internet boom, many sites had these type of programs which paid a few cents for each person who visited a site from a link listed at your site or through some other means.
Now, however, they simply are not as popular, but they can still be beneficial. Instead of offering a cash reward, allow your customers to earn your products/services by referring new business to you.
For example, you may want to offer a free e-book to customers who refer five new customers to your site. These new customers may have to make a purchase, join the referral reward program, become a member, or sign up for the newsletter. People will do a great deal if the reward is right.
Whether you elect to use one of these marketing methods or choose one of your own, the key is to test its effectiveness. Try it out for awhile and see if the results are satisfactory. If not, return to the drawing board. If so, then implement it on a larger scale. With careful planning and testing, your business will experience the benefits of marketing firsthand. Vishal P. I want to work at home and earn online. What is there to learn? This is what beginners must be wondering about… “What is there to learn?” All the websites out there are talking about making money online, from comforts of one’s home: http://earn-2.com/ They also mention that anybody can do it. A housewife, a retired, senior citizen, new mother, student anybody - and everyone has an equal to survive and succeed. “What is there to learn after all?”
The websites also say, you don’t need money, experience or qualification to start a home business. All you need is a computer at home and internet access. Okay, I have a computer and access to internet. Now, what does it take? What do I need to learn?
Well, one step at a time. There are many kinds of jobs or business’ you can do from home. You can join a program that will send you surveys and you will be paid to answer each one of these. See? It fits the bill. To take online surveys all you need is a computer and internet access. And everyone has an equal chance to survive and succeed.
Likewise you can buy a domain name, build a site of your own, (like I do) sell various products on it. When people buy from your site, you get your commissions. In this kind of home business you need to learn the techniques to move your website up the search engine. The techniques are available online. Free of cost. Techniques such as having tightly themed, relevant content on your site, optimizing, exchanging links, writing articles, attending and contributing in forums, placing press-releases.. and so on. They are simple stepby step techniques that you pick up as you move ahead. The home business website takes time to pick up. It also takes a while for you to get a proper hang of things. The learning is an ongoing process. Everyday something is upgraded. Every visit of google leaves footprints behind. You may have a question that needs immediate answering and you can get it answered right away.. You just have to know which word to type in the search engine to get what you want. And your query will be answered right there.
If you have understood what I mean then, I can make it simpler for you. See, you have a website about home business and someone is looking for home business. When he/she types home business in the search engine, your site has to show within the first 5-10 options. This means you are high up in the search engine. And to reach here, is the name of the game! This is what is there to learn. How to position your site high up in the search engines for particular keywords (e.g make money online, work at home, home business etc).
Once your site reaches here, you have to put in efforts to stay there. Even Julia Roberts and Tom Cruise have to make an effort to stay at the top, who are we?About the Author

The Empowerment of Owning Your Own Home
Purchasing a home is one of the most powerful and terrifying events of a person’s life. It is a challenge, but once this challenge is met with strategic planning, knowledge and excitement it becomes an investment. One that will change your financial future and bring more return than you ever imagined. The first step is finding a real estate agent with integrity and experience. The perfect agent will be one who fosters trust, believes in buyer education and offers emotional support. Over time seasoned buyers come to view these agents as partners in locating and analyzing the best investments available.
Don’t Be Afraid of Cold Feet
A first time buyer should expect to feel an initial wave of buyer’s remorse. There is always a moment of panic or doubt right after the first offer is made. Don’t hesitate to ask your real estate agent questions and to communicate your fears. The agent is there to explain each step of the transaction and to interpret local and state laws. Remember that buying a home is a long-term investment. Most properties increase in value and if the purchase is planned well you will have more money in the end. Let the real estate agent know your plans for the future. Is there a chance you will rent the property later? Do you plan to live in the house for less than five years or more than ten? Think clearly and consider all the possibilities. If you are buying an older home be realistic. Prepare for repairs and hard work. Expect to make changes and improvements that will increase the return on your investment.
Building a Foundation For a Better Life
The benefits of ownership can change the financial profitability and personal outlook of one’s life. The power of purchasing property creates a refreshed sense of security and freedom. The tangible pay
off of seeing your money in action creates confidence and pride. Renting takes only the present moment into account, buying allows you to invest in your own future. Unlike unpredictable rental fees, mortgage payments are stable or increase gradually. A mortgage payment increases your credit score and opens doors to other investment opportunities. A successful purchase allows you to personalize your living space, which gives you the motivation to stay on top of your investments. Take a look at your neighborhood and become more inspired, more proactive. Build the perfect atmosphere and home and look forward to an even more exciting return on your investment.
Tax Incentives Make Buying The Better Choice
Buying a home allows you to build equity and have huge tax breaks. Mortgage interest and annual local and state property taxes are deductible. Since the first few years of mortgage payments are mainly interest, and therefore deductible, the savings is amazing. Up to $100, 000 interest on home equity loans can also be deducted. Loans and interest on loans used to improve a home with the intention of renting can be deducted, as well as, mortgage interest on second homes if you rent them. Capital improvements made to increase the value of a home can be recorded and reduce the capital gains. To explore all of the tax advantages of purchasing and owning a home remember to consult a professional in your area. The joy and accomplishment of ownership are waiting for you!

If you are working from home, you can and should set your sights on doing business with the largest companies in the world.
We currently do business with a realty company and have inquiries from a brand name technology company and two oil companies. All of them are in the Fortune 500 - and we work from home - in a home office. At FunCareers.com we practice what we preach!
In our particular case we are providing software to these companies but whatever it is that you do, or are planning to do, you could be providing products or services to these billion dollar juggernauts.
You might think that what you have to offer would not be of interest to a large company and that it would be difficult to get the business, but you'd be wrong. Getting work from a F500 company is as easy as getting business from any other company or individual. It sounds simplistic but it's true.
We know a woman that provides a consulting service and is currently under contract with one of the largest universities in the country, if not the world. She does much of the work from her home office. Have a look at her site at http://www.jenniferinc.com to see just one of the services she provides.
You might think that you *have* to know someone high up in the organization to get the gig but once again you would be wrong. Only one of our contacts came about that way, the others came through our websites! Of course you will need to talk with a person that has the authority to purchase, but you'd be surprised the number of people that can be in a large organization.
Here are are some basic facts:
Fact: A big company needs products and services just like a small company. If you have what they need, then they will be happy doing business with you.
Fact: You can charge more for the same service when
dealing with these ultra large companies, in fact they expect it! If you price your products or services too low they may not do business with you. They are used to paying premium prices for premium services - the kind you supply!
Fact: Just like any relationship, who you know can count. Look at your degrees of separation from the company you want to work with and see if anyone you know, knows someone that works there. If not, see if someone you know, knows someone, that knows someone that works there. The first step is to get in the door and talk to them, only then can you find out if your product or service is what they need.
Fact: Big companies are screwed up! Many large corporations are still in business simply because they have huge cash flow and can afford to make many mistakes without it seriously impacting the bottom line. If you feel intimidated by doing business with these guy just remember, your business is probably better run and more efficient than theirs!
Steps to Take:
The simple steps to doing business with Fortune 500 companies is to first do your research, find out about the company, what they do and how your product or service could benefit them.
Next, locate the person or title that would be appropriate for what you are selling, then either through personal contact, degrees of separation or research, find out how to get hold of that person and to make your pitch.
After that, it's up to how good a job you do selling your home business services to the biggest companies in the world.

Your own business is very rewarding. However it's not easy. Forget the myths now and prepare to work.
Even though there are many rewards of having your own business, it is hard work. Don't be fooled into thinking differently. When I started my first business, I realized that I had to embrace the opportunity to learn as much as I could. I learned very quickly that you cannot get rich over night and I also learned that there are many characteristics to a business that you must embrace in order to carve a path to be success. I find that Money, Planning, Patience, Time and Product Knowledge are key points in a home business that take a certain approach. Let's try and tackle them together.
Money
It takes money to get a business started and it takes money to sustain a business. In other words you need money for an initial investment in the product you are selling, materials for your home office to support the business and your clients and money for marketing your business. It is important that you define and list all known expenses for your business because there are always expenses that we all miss along the way. Too many unaccounted expenses can cause problems down the road. Don't be fool yourself into thinking that you are not going to risk any money. You have to manage money correctly and think ahead about how you want to invest.
Planning
When starting a business you have a million great thoughts running through your head. Write them down! All ideas should be written down so you can plan accordingly as when to concentrate and implement your ideas. Too many ideas and thoughts are never bought to life because people forget them. When you have a great idea on paper you can actually plan to see what it takes to turn that idea into reality.
Patience
Remember you may not become a millionaire over night. There are no "get rich quick" opportunities. However, you increase your chances of making enough money to make a living on your own terms if you are patient and keep moving forward with your business plans. Be patient and realize your building a client base for your product.
Time
You can't start a business and run every task within minutes. I used to have this mindset. The reason for this mindset is because of the computer age we live in. Computers make things happen so fast that we are a now society of instant gratification. In fact, a lot of business opportunities I see promote working part time hours to make full time money. In some cased it may be true. However, be prepared to put in the hours if you want to earn money on your own. Computers do not replace the human thoughts, passion and creativity that go into running your own business. Time must be set aside and managed accordingly. Especially if you still have a day job, time management is essential and get ready to burn the midnight oil a few nights.
Also, be persistent because instant gratification does not happen often while running a business. However, hard work is needed and you must be persistent in your pursuits.
Product Knowledge
I saved the best for last. Here's why. Most people think that the product they are selling sells itself. This happens a lot when you are selling someone else's product. However, you realize quickly that you have to overcome many objections of your product. This is where product knowledge comes in. The more you know about your product the more confident you sound when you talk about the product with a prospect. It's simple as that. Not taking the time to learn about your product could lead to frustration and eventually you will loose interest in selling the product. People do want your product, you have to do the work and sell it to them.
The approach and mind set you take to Money, Planning, Patience, Time and Product Knowledge in regards to your home business can be very crucial as to how you move forward. It takes a lot of these things to run your business so don't fool yourself into thinking anything different.

If you’re a webmaster who has been itching to start a
home based business and you are experiencing some cash flow problems and are considering leaving your dreams by the wayside, don’t. Credit cards may be your answer. Now before you start feeling guilty about using your credit cards for some much needed cash flow and before you antagonize over this issue because of “debt”, let me assure you that credit cards may be your key to success when you use them wisely.
This isn’t to say that you should go out and run up your cards up to the limit simply because they are there. Instead, we’re saying that credit cards http://www.the-credit-card-shop.co.uk/ are not all bad, credit card companies aren’t the devil and if you use your cards smartly then they can help jump start your fledging business’ finances or get you out of a cash crunch. However, the key is to learn how to use credit cards to your advantage and not your disadvantage. With this in mind, we have provided you with the top five tips that will help you use your credit cards wisely:1. First and foremost, you should realize that carrying cards have some advantages. Here are some major ones that you should be aware of:a. Credit allows you to buy needed supplies instantly instead of waiting until later;b. You can spread out the cost of expensive equipment like software and computers;c. You can learn to cleverly float cards and get months of interest free loans if you choose the right card and use it correctly;d. When you use cards, your purchases are insured;e. Credit cards allow you to keep track of miscellaneous purchases and expenses;f. You can earn points and other rewards simply for using the card;g. Credit cards help you budget your money. You get a single limit and once that is exceeded then you will be declined so you’ll be encouraged to keep track of how much limit you have. 2. Second, you have to find a card that has a great rate and/or the best benefits for you. For instance, if you will pay off the balance every month but travel a lot then you might want to consider a card with a higher interest rate that gives more frequent flier miles since you will not be affected by the interest rate when you can’t pay off the credit card balance every month. On the other hand, if you can’t pay your balance every month, you should consider the card with a lower interest rate. http://the-credit-card-shop.co.uk/low-interest-credit-cards.htm3. Once you’ve found an appropriate card, you should make a commitment to pay your balance responsibly. That is, you should only charge the amount that you can realistically pay in a month or so and make a point not to rack up a ton of credit card debt.4. You should really try and avoid using your credit card to get cash advances. This is because most companies charge cash advance fees which could hurt you. However, an exception to this would be if you have an emergency and need to handle a cash crunch then you should use the least amount possible. 5. Review your statements as soon as you get them to evaluate interest rates. Make sure that you don’t see any errors and if you do then report them right away. In conclusion, you shouldn’t feel guilty about using your credit cards to help you start or finance your fledging web business. Instead, you should use the above-mentioned tips and use your cards responsibly so that they continue to be a blessing when you need them!Claire Bowes is a successful freelance writer and owner of the Credit Card Centre http://www.the-credit-card-centre.co.uk/ where you will find further advice and tips on the best credit card deals http://the-credit-card-centre.co.uk/best-credit-cards.html , 0% credit cards and small business credit cards. http://the-credit-card-centre.co.uk/business-credit-cards.html
